Church Worship

Church worship is one of the most important and critical elements of every church and one of the most often misunderstood elements inside the church more than anything is this issue of praise and worship. Ignorance in this area is a great obstacle which stunts the spiritual growth of churches as well as the lives of individuals in their own spiritual growth and walk with the Lord.

There are more people in the church who get more upset over worship music than anything else in the church! The preacher can preach bad doctrine every Sunday and people can go to hell 24 / 7 but if you really want to get someone upset, just start messing around with the praise and worship music and watch how many people leave the church. If you want to split a church, the best way to do it is to change the music!

Many believers get more upset at the kind of music in their church than what kind of preaching it does in the word!

“I can’t believe they played that song today! It’s too loud, to short, too long, too young, too old, too much rap, there’s drums and electric guitars in it, they’re not worshipping God, it’s just entertainment. The beat isn’t 4/4 time. It’s too fast, we have to slow it down.”

All of a sudden the church has a new ministry that nobody knew existed, called the “Guardians of Praise”!

Unfortunately, because there is a great lack of understanding among many in the body of Christ today of what true Biblical worship and praise is, several ill-conceived notions and thoughts cause problems inside the church that stem from ignorance of what true Biblical worship and praise is.

The two terms “worship and praise” are often heard together and used interchangeably relating both terms solely to church worship music.

However, is this what true Biblical worship and praise is? Are they one in the same?

If not, why do we often hear the terms worship and praise used interchangeably and often referred solely to church music?

Why do believers so often relate worship and praise only to the music in the church during worship service? Is praise and worship solely about church music?

What should be the church’s position of what true Biblical worship and praise is? Should it be an issue that gets people to the point of leaving the church when a change is made in this area?

After all what’s the point of worshipping and praising anyway? Whom are we worshipping? Whom are we praising? What does it even mean to worship? What does it mean to praise?

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God. Psalm 50:23

Let’s go to the scriptures to determine this issue of church worship.
