Church Ministry
Many people show up in church, enjoy the music, sermon, then go home. Many never realize that God has called each and every one of us to be a minister of the gospel. Not just the pastors and teachers. Church ministry runs on the rails of relationships and God expects you to have an impact in the lives of others.
Unfortunately, this is where many churches fall short. In order for the church to equip the body of Christ in the word of God and in ministry, here are some of my observations that I believe are essential issues that are common areas of misunderstanding in the body of Christ today. I also believe these are key areas that every local church must equip it’s body on to mobilize all to be an effective minister of the Lord Jesus Christ.
These are issues that I believe would enhance the process of strengthening and building church leaders. Proper Biblical teaching and training in these areas would strengthen the church, help to guard against bad doctrine and further equip the body of believers by properly teaching and giving understanding in key areas of topics that the church must understand. This would make for effective church leadership training.
These issues should be taught under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the leadership of the church. Whether they are done through a discipleship setting, in an evening service from the pulpit or however else the leadership of the church through the guidance of the Holy Spirit sees fit. The important thing is that the body of Christ is taught regarding the following issues:
1. The authority of the King James Bible in the English language and why we don’t change to another version.
I understand I will probably get negatively blogged for this and tarred and feathered (you wouldn’t imagine from another believer would you) – but let’s be real about this. Believers are some of the most nastiest and meanest people there are often. I will not digress into this topic but if you use another Bible version, that is your business. I am not here to judge you. I have my convictions and I understand where the modern versions derive from. This will be a subject that I will be discussing on my Bible site and other areas of this site. I use the King James Bible only but God loves you and so do I if you use another version. I have no issues with that. But I will contribute more in depth on this subject so please read on.
2. How to study the Bible and understand the key doctrines of the Bible.
Most people have no idea how to study their Bible, nor do they understand the basic doctrines of the Bible. I have found many believers today do not know why they believe what they believe, only because someone told them. Yet, they are unable to go to the word of God themselves and tell you why they believe what they do. Ouch!
3. How to effectively minister.
I believe churches should train their people by example and teach them ministry training in the various areas of ministry.
Get people involved in ministering to others.
4. Church History
Who knows anything about history today? Yet, how do you know where we are going if you don’t know where we come from? Very few believers realize how much blood has been shed throughout the centuries to pass on the faith.
5. Discipleship
This is absolutely key in every believers life, every local church and church ministry. This is getting believers rooted in the word of God, rooted in the local church, rooted in fellowship with other believers and in serving in church ministry. There are two extremes of discipleship and most churches blow this leaving their flocks in a state of spiritual immaturity and wasted lives.
6. Importance of Prayer
Prayer is the power that moves the arm of God. Yet how many of us are powerless in our prayer lives. We use shallow prayers instead of coming to the Lord with a genuine, sincere and broken heart. If we got back to powerful prayer, I believe the world would be a much better place.
7. The Importance of Praise and Worship
Many believers are defeated today because they have no clue about praise and worship and what the purpose is. It’s more than just church music. It’s how we present our lives as sacrifice to Him. When we forget who we worship and why and don’t do it, more than likely we will have defeated Christian lives.
8. Importance of Missions and Evangelism
The whole purpose of the church body. To be an extension of God’s love and message of His Son who died, was buried and rose again and gives hope of eternal life. Instead of being ego-centric, Christians should be theo-centric and focus on God’s mission of spreading his gospel to the ends of the earth.
These are my main points of observation of church ministry.
